To quote a Yiddish proverb “What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul”. I am a great believer in this, and so is my guest on today's “A Book and a Chat with Weston Locher."
Weston, had no chance with avoiding having literature as an important thing in his life. With a mother who was an English teacher, and a father who is a journalist, he was to a life of writing before he was able to consciously make the decision for himself. He chose to write humor because his parents made the mistake of telling him that he was funny. This is further proof he says of why you shouldn’t lie to your children. Mind you as Weston shared with us... “It’s handy having a mother whose and English teacher when it comes to having your work edited.”
Weston produced numerous short essays, including one “101 Ways To Hurt Yourself: A Children’s Guide To Recess” which was a semifinalist of “America’s Funniest Humor “ awards at humorpress.com. (You can find this essay at http://humorpress.com/Results/Essays-200910-200911/b-SemiFins/Essay-200910-200911-SemiFinalists.htm )
He launched the Musings on Minutiae humor blog in January of 2009 to collect his observations into one place where they could be enjoyed by everyone. Taking fifty of his blog essays, Weston merged them into his debut book “Musings on Minutiae”. These stories Includes his humorous and sometimes unbelievable childhood memories, tales of life in an urban apartment complex, the funny observations that come from living with felines, and much more.
During the show we found out more about Weston and his unique take on life, how he came to produce the book and what lessons he has not only learned with promoting this his first book, also how he has shared that knowledge on his blog for other new and would be authors. I myself love the way that he is sharing is book on Kindle for the small amount of only $0.99. As we discussed it’s not going to make him money but it will get his name out there, so when the 3rd, 4th or 5th books come out he will already have a following.
As Victor Borge once said “Laughter is the shortest distance between two people” so why not release your chuckle bone and listen to an enjoyable thirty minutes on today’s A Book and a Chat with Weston Locher."
