A Book and a Chat with Dina von Lowenkraft

Despite a storm causing severe program interruptions during tonight’s show, my guest Dina von Lowenkraft managed to get through the show and towards the end without line interruption. Mind you, the fact that Dina is in Belgium and it was gone midnight there, alone was a challenge, but in the end the show was well worth getting through.

Dina was born in the US and has lived on 4 continents, worked as a graphic artist for television and as a consultant in the fashion industry before producing her first but I’m sure not last novel. The ability to create her own worlds and share them with the reader is helped by her being a black belt in Karate and a keen horse rider. In her debut YA fantasy novel “Dragon Fire” Dina is able to paint with words the land and the characters that merge together to make a “must read” debut novel.

About “Dragon Fire “:  (taken from Amazon)

Some choices are hard to live with.
But some choices will kill you.

When seventeen-year-old Anna first meets Rakan in her hometown north of the Arctic Circle, she is attracted to his pulsing energy. Unaware that he is a shape-shifting dragon, Anna is drawn into a murderous cycle of revenge that pits Rakan and his clan against her best friend June.

Torn between his forbidden relationship with Anna, punishable by death, and restoring his family’s honor by killing June, Rakan must decide what is right. And what is worth living – or dying – for.

The story is set in arctic Norway which enables Dina to share a unique world where humans and dragons and other mythical creatures are the norm. She is able to introduce intriguing secondary characters in the book, which can only lead to further books from this “one to follow” author.

As one reviewer put it…

I was so involved when reading this book that I found myself caught up in the drama and splendor of this mystical realm. The characters were interesting and well defined and the story was interesting, exciting and entertaining.

I'm looking forward to reading her next book!
Reviewer… me too!!!

So listen now and share an interesting, and entertaining show as I chat with my special guest today on A Book and a Chat with Dina von Lowenkraft

A Book and a Chat with Jack Whitsel

I enjoy reading Fantasy novels and amongst my favorite authors of such books is Terry Brooks, when I started reading about the writing of today’s guest Jack Whitsel, it reminded me very much of his Shannara series so you can guess I could not wait to get Jack as a guest on my show.

Jack has always been a storyteller from an early age creating stories pertaining to my STAR WARS action figures and Micronaughts. It was not committed to writing a novel until his sons were born. They really awakened the creative spirit within, and hisfirst book is dedicated to them. Mix with that forte for telling of stories along with his love of mediaeval history has lead to “Shadows of Kings” the first book in the Dragon Rising Series.

About “Shadows and Kings”:
(taken from examiner.com)

Steel and sorcery clash as the Harhn incursion sweeps through the Hugue. Mankind faces its greatest peril without the Order Knights of legend to defend them. Crusading deep in the frontier, the Order is unaware of the savage beasts threatening their homeland as the Hugue realms muster their armies for war.

Between a cunning Harhn sorcerer, and an alliance forged with the decadent Darkfey, the horde threatens to extinguish the domains of men. Only Lord Baudouin and Lady Lucia, a Dragon Maiden from the Order, stand in the enemy’s path. One must find the strength to unify the realms. The other must discover the strength within her, while coming to terms with the agendas of her Order. But only together will there be any hope to repel the onslaught, and preserve the future for a mysterious girl they do not know.

It is not just me who thinks this could be the first on a classic series of fantasy novels, as one reviewer put it…

This is a great fantasy book and especially enjoyable for people like me who only dabble in fantasy. It has the creative elements of a Tolkien world with the more human, gritty and medieval elements of a George R.R. Martin book. You'd never think this is the author's first novel. The writing is refreshingly fluid, the character development is fantastic and the storyline picks up speed at a perfect rate. It ends just as you're completely engaged and leaves you anxious for the next installment!

As a person who was raised on Tolkien I am sure this kind of review meant a lot to Jack, and I’m equally sure we will hear a lot more of the name “Jack Whitsel”.

A Book and a Chat with MJ Allaire

Author, fellow book signer and friend MJ Allaire makes a welcome return to today’s “A Book and a Chat” to share about her books, self publishing and even appearing as a wench in the court of King Richard.
If you have seen me signing around New England would normally see me working with this great author, as the St George the knight always goes well with a person who has written about dragons.

MJ started writing her young adult fantasy series in 2005, for her eldest son, then 15, however from the first book "Dragon's Blood", MJ went on to produce “The Prisoner” and “ Dragons Tear” as books two and three of the now “Denicalis Dragon Chronicles” . Just to show she was not all about dragon as she then produced “My Blissful Life As a Submariner's Wife

Imagine yourself as a young mother; half the world away from loved ones as a military dependent, then compound this with the much larger challenge of raising a family by yourself because your military spouse is always gone. No amount of money can replace when an active duty military member misses some of life's major milestones, such as the birth of a child, a baby's first steps, or a high school graduation. Follow one woman as she struggles to provide balance and stability to her dependent children while her husband serves his country. Her trials and tribulations will provide insight to just a few of the challenges faced by today's military family. Think you understand the life of a military dependent? Think again.

In 2010 MJ produced “Dragons Breath” book four of the Denicalis Dragon Chronicles, then took the step to move from print on demand type publishing to produce and market her own, creating her own publishing company Bookateer Publishing

Review of "Dragons Breath"

In book four of the Denicalis Dragon Chronicles series, the reader is invited to follow a group of curious children who set out on a mission to find not only each other, but also the amulets, while finding a solution to save the dragons from evil forces that rule through greed and power.

Will the children succeed through trust and determination as they follow their destiny, or will their efforts become 'Mission Impossible!' Why did the girls trust Kennard, and was he a slimy frog, or a muck dragon? Was an evil spell casted upon Kennard, and by whom? Will the girls be able to save Gruffod, and what was Lotor's intentions? Why is Nivri searching for the missing amulets, and were the dragons able to communicate with each other? What happened to Kennard when he tried to escape at an attempt for freedom, and was a bird laughing at him? How will the girls get to the other side of the mountain? Will they find food to satisfy hunger, and will Tonia ever see her brothers again? Were the rats and turtles Kennard's friends, and did they help the girls? Who provided lights for the girls as their journey began, and who guided the way?

This novel is highly recommended for all fantasy lovers. MJ Allaire takes the reader through another spectacular adventure that not only young adults would appreciate, but parents and teachers as well. The incredible story is educational as magic fills the air, while mystical creatures come to life. Time is running out as the mysterious quest continues. The clock is ticking fast, who will survive, and who will die? Will the journey end with a treasure of memories, or will it end in a nightmare? Why did the Ring of Alyshana strike an emotional chord in Kennard, and did it have special powers? Why was Zacharu held as a prisoner? Two prisoners found freedom, who were they?

Will the missing stones be found? What happens to Kennard, after the girls make it through the mountain, and who will be grieving? This book will indeed capture the imagination as the reader travels through a life-endangering odyssey. "DRAGON'S BREATH" is enchanting, delightful, and as thrilling as WILD AMERICA!

During the show MJ shared with us some of the issues and what sort advantages there can be from publishing your books yourself, before going on to tell us about her latest venture. Selling her books and being a part of the King Richards Faire in Carver MA.

With those medieval appearances spread over the next month followed by signings in the Connecticut building with fellow CAPA authors at the Big E and now book five underway I am sure the name MJ Allaire will soon be spreading around the country as a must read author for all ages.

So listen now and share an interesting and entertaining show as I spend thirty minutes sharing "A Book and a Chat with MJ Allaire".

A Book and a Chat with Stephen Beccia

Stephen John Beccia is an avid Stephen King fan and enjoy writing adult horror stories, however that is not why he was today’s guest on “A Book and a Chat”.

Born and Raised in Milford, MA, Stephen has been a local musician for most his life, he started writing stories when he was ten, the first one being his version of Dr. Jekyll. From writing short songs, poems and short stories Stephen moved into publishing with his book “The Treelanders - Journey to the Giants” which was an award winner of iUniverse’s Publishers Choice, and Editor’s Choice.

About “The Treelanders - Journey to the Giants”

‘The peaceful villagers of Treeland have been put under the evil gargoyle’s fire and ice curse. The last dragon—protector to the king—is dying, further crippling the town’s chances to lift the curse. Treeland’s only hope is one remaining dragon egg, but it has landed in the wrong hands and vanished into a forbidden land.

Treelander Avry Blain and his four siblings face their biggest challenge as they travel for the first time into this mysterious land in pursuit of the rare dragon egg. They battle Captain Slaughter and his pirates, and stand head to head with Kildane the warlock and his three greedy giants.’

The book is ideal for any age, with much more than just a story; puzzles, clues, riddles and adventures of all kind. It is a great book full of likable characters that boys and girls and of course adults will love.

As we heard through the program Stephen already has another four of the “Treelander” series on the way, plus another couple of children’s novels in the works, and then of course there is the adult horror…

So sit back and listen to today's interesting and entertaining show as I host "A Book and a Chat with Stephen Beccia".

A Book and a Chat with Patricia A. Thomas

Over the July 4th holiday I was with my good friend M.J Allaire signing and selling books at the Groton (CT) "Sub Fest". MJ has written (so far) four books in her "Denicalis Dragon Chronicles". You may wonder what this has to do with my guest on today's "A Book and a Chat"

My guest today is Patricia A. Thomas who has written in her book " God Reveals a Mystery" her belief in the connection between dragons dinosaurs and snakes.

God first opened her spiritual eyes to the truth and spoke this revelation knowledge to Patricia, concerning the demise of the “dinosaur”, in 1997 and from that she wrote a poem, with the foundation being that the name “dinosaur” was coined or made-up in 1842 and the real animal's name is serpent or dragon (both names mean the same thing in Greek) and that they still exist- in its cursed form according to Genesis 3:14.

From that start it only took her a few months to write the manuscript and in 2006, God gave her the scientific information to write the book to prove that my theory would eventually become a fact, at the appointed time, unlike other theories that will never be proven. That year, in 2006, “God Reveals a Mystery” was published.

About “God Reveals a Mystery”

Lies and myths surround the dragon. With so many distorted pieces to a complex puzzle, only God can sort through the complexity of falsehoods and reveal the truth with simplicity. God knows everything and He can give you the solution to a puzzle that man could never fathom. Many know, especially in the continent of Asia, that the fictitious or mythical dinosaurs’ fossils really belong to the dragons'. Well, what happened to the dragons? There has to be an answer out there somewhere and there is. The God-given answer will surprise many. But, knowing the truth will set you free!

During the show Patricia shared much about how the book came about, the way is has been received and how she has developed the book also shortly adding visual imagery to help spread the word.

So why not sit back and share todays program "A Book and a Chat with Patricia A. Thomas"
