A Book and a Chat with "Dallas Woodburn"

Tonight's special guest on "A Book and a Chat" has come a long way from a very difficult beginning, "Dallas Woodburn" has become an author, speaker, freelance writer as well as living her dream.

A 22-year-old recent USC graduate, Dallas already has produced two collections of short stories, a forthcoming novel, and more than 80 articles in publications including Family Circle, Writer's Digest, The Writer, the Los Angeles Times, and seven Chicken Soup for the Soul books.

Her first book "There's a Huge Pimple on My Nose" (got to love that title), was produced when she was in fifth grade. Since then she has gone on to produce a second book of short stories "3 a.m." Dallas writes with both humor and poignancy, features you will understand as you listen to our chat.

During the show we discuss items from her premature birth and the knowledge and gratitude gained from realizing how lucky she is to just being alive and how that has given her the drive to live her dream of becoming a writer.

Dallas also shares with us how at the age of thirteen she started "Write On!" a non-profit organization that encourages children to discover joy, self-confidence, and expression through writing and reading. And the great work she has done through that link to gather over 11,000 books for young readers during "Holiday Book Drives" after the last nine years.

A fun and interesting program where we learn much about Dallas and her writing, that all will enjoy.

So why not settle down and listen to thirty minutes with "Dallas Woodburn" in today's "A Book and a Chat"

She is definitely a name to look out for...

A Christmas Book and a Chat with Kim Smith

I started running my internet blog radio show, back in February of 2009, since that time I have presented exactly one hundered radio shows.

My very first guest was also just starting her radio show, as well as launching her own book. Since then we have appeared on each others shows since then as well as doing a couple of specials together.

So today to for my Christmas special who else could I have as a guest but the one and only KIM SMITH Mystery and Romance author and host of the blog radio show "Introducing Writers"

Kim and I talk about all that has gone on through this last year, how our radio shows have taken, off, the guests we've had, the things we've learned and been able to share with listeners. Not only about the writers and their books, but about the art of writing and promoting books a whole.

The show as normal when Kim and I get chatting covers many areas and is not lacking in humor.

As a Christmas Special, the show was extended to a one hour slot, yet still we ran out of time.

So why not settle down as listen to "A Christmas Book and a Chat with Kim Smith" or better still download the mp3 file or bookmark the radio show, and have a relaxing and enjoyable listen to the show after that Christmas Dinner.

A Book and a Chat with "James Diehl"

My guest on tonight’s “A Book and a Chat” is author of “World War II Hero’s of Southern Delaware” – ‘JAMES DIEHL

When the Seaford and Laurel Star newspapers in Sussex, Delaware decided to run a series of articles on World War II veterans, people were excited about the opportunity to preserve a part of history that would be lost forever. Local veterans through interviews passed on their experiences, and it’s these stories of courage and sacrifice James Diehl has shared with readers in his book of “World War II Hero’s of Southern Delaware”.

From a soldier who was responsible for uncovering Adolph Hitler s enormous, and illegally gained, fortune toward the end of World War II. To one of the men who liberated the German concentration camps. James tells us about how he gathered these important parts of our history from the people who actually lived the experience.

So stop by and share this fascinating and educational thirty minutes as James Diehl is my guest today on “A Book and a Chat”.

On tonight's "A Book and a Chat", Joanne Sundell makes a welcome return visit. Previously we discussed her historical romance novels including Meggie's Remains which was launched in July of this year. A Book and a Chat with "Cynthia Vespia"

Tonight's special guest on "A Book and a Chat" is author Cynthia Vespia, writer, author, weapons collector and self confessed chocoholic.

Cynthia is one of those people who knew she wanted to write from an early age, and after leaving high school, he established a successful career as a freelance journalist writing everything from features and fillers, to reviews and human interest stories. Though all the time writing novels remained her first love.

Her first book was an historical novel called "The Crescent" was published in 2005, a story revolving around the not that well known female roman gladiators> As we hear during the radio show, this book is currently under discussion for making into a film... so look out for that.

After producing her second novel in 2006 a suspense thriller based around the world of wrestling called "Theater of Pain", Cynthia embarked on her biggest project yet.

Demon Hunter labeled "A Trilogy of fear" the kind of fiction that will compel you to sleep with your lights on.

Book one "The Chosen One" proved a great success with many reviews, comments and interviews. The second book of the trilogy "Seek and Destroy" was released in November 2009. It has already created stir not only amongst those who read the first book, but bringing in a fresh audience.

As Cynthia describes the books...

"We can all find ourselves secretly wishing for a certain aspect of our lives to change but sometimes you get your wish and it winds up not being worth it, or not what you thought it would be. And sometimes it IS what you were looking for…but things don’t always come easily or run smoothly."

Why not listen to this fascinating and enjoyable thirty minutes as Cynthia Vespia is my special guest on today's "A Book and a Chat with Cynthia Vespia" at this link.

Born and raised in a town where a Lima Bean was the mascot, then going to Ohio State University, which has a Buckeye, a poisonous nut, as it's mascot, might explain a little about tonight's special guest "LAURA PREBLE" and her humor. Or perhaps it's stories her father told her, such as how when he'd her mother she'd been go-go dancing on tables in white boots. Looking for something to gift that teenage reader, or in fact any reader who likes books like the Narnia Series, or Brian Jacques "Radwell". Victoria Simcox my special guest on tonight's "A Book and a Chat" will be able to supply just the book you are looking for.

That was a start, she went home that night and wrote her first page not knowing where the story would go.

The result as we hear during the show is "The Magic Warble" the first of possibly a 3/4 set of books for the young and old alike.

A Book and a Chat with "Tina Field Howe and Friends"

Back on August the first my show guest was Tina Field Howe, she is a lady of "so many hats" that the thirty minutes we chatted for only scratched the surface of this multi-talented lady.

One of the items that we discussed last time was the fact that Tina had received a grant from "The Arts Council of the Southern Finger Lakes" to turn her first book it an audio book. One stipulation of the grant was that she had to put on a performance of the show/audio before the end of the year. To this end there is a performance being put on during the "Sparkle Festival" in Corning at Soul Full Cup, 81 W. Market St., Corning, NY on Saturday, December 5, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Listen to the show and hear how Tina and her audio book has developed, not only that but her second book "The Trail Folk of Xunar-kun" has been won first place in ", he Trail Folk of Xunar-kun,"

I was lucky enough during this one hour special not only to speak to Tina, but also some of the actors and actresses who will be playing the parts in the audio book.

Several of the characters join in, including, Alison Chen, Tonery Rose Rogers and David Scott to name but a few. David might be better known for his "literal video version" version of "Total Eclipse of the Heart" on youtube has almost 5 million hits
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj-x9ygQEGA

So why not sit and enjoy a fun hour as I chat with Tina Field Howe and members of the cast of her audio version of "Alysa of the Fields" we even get an insite into her next possible audio book her children's book "Snailsworth".

the show is a fun sixty minutes for all to enjoy.

A Book and a Chat with "M.M Anderson" (Even a Werewolf joined in the show)

M.M. Anderson has always had an active imagination and a mischievously macabre sense of humor. As a child she enjoyed scaring her parents, brother, cousins, and friends with creepy stories and Halloweenish pranks. All the while secretly suspecting that as an infant she’d been separated from her real relatives: the Addams Family. Ms Anderson is however, as we found out on tonight's show a whole lot more than that.

She has published nonfiction works, including "zoo books' and prize winning short stories, created commercial ads, written music, and penned the lyrics in Turnaround for Signal 7.

As we found out during tonight's show the author wrote the first of what looks like being a series of these books in dedication to her late father.

There are many werewolf themed books out there, but this one give new life to the Genre. With action, romance, comedy and just a little bit of the unknown. M.M Anderson takes the reader into the world she creates. She not only gave life to unique characters, but she created a whole new world in which they live in.

Written, with "tongue in cheek" humor "Werewolf Dreams" has already been enjoyed by people of all ages, the much awaited sequel to Werewolf Dreams... Werewolf Love: Until Death Do Us Part, which will probably be released in 2011, and the third in the series will follow down the line.

A Book and a Chat with "Harmony from PAYA"

I have blogged about PAYA and the fantastic work that Harmony, Yan and Josh Berk have done to support YA literature in Pennsylvania. So it was with great pleasure that I had Harmony along with a couple of other dial in guest on my show today.

PAYA, Bringing (More) YA to PA, is an initiative started by book bloggers Harmony and Yan with help from Tenner author and PA librarian, Josh Berk, in response to dramatic Pennsylvania state budget cuts that have reduced library funding by more than 25%.

Since I grew up in Pennsylvania, this struck a chord with me. Plus, I think it is absolutely amazing and impressive that Harmony, a just-turned 15 year old, and Yan, a 17 year old student, have taken this kind of initiative and done such an incredible job organizing a website, book drive, and auction, with plans for an annual Philadelphia YA Book Festival beginning summer 2010. Oh, and that’s in addition to their regular book blogging and schoolwork.

The show explains how PAYA came about, and what it is doing to help schools and library's in PA. Share the knowledge of how three young people have taken on the responsibility to help Young Adult Readers in Pennsylvania and how you to can help PAYA.

After all as Kat one of the dial in guests commented.

"Everybody should be able to read a book no matter what state or country they live in."

A Book and a Chat with "Courtney J. Webb"

Over the weeks, I've had guest calling parked at the side of the road, guest calling from up in the mountains or on a trail through the wilds. I've had guests from Canada and England, however today my show with Courtney J Webb was something different. Courtney is in Australia, and with the aid of a bottle of Prune Juice (that could cause some issues later on) joined the show at 2am in the morning her time.

Of course the fact that we are both from England even though thousands of miles a part meant we had lots to talk and laugh about.

I was using a new phone and it does seem to have a bit of an echo on it, so that needs to be sorted out, but I'm sure you can still enjoy the fun and laughter as I talk to Courtney about her and her book "Immaculate Deception"

Immaculate Deception is a rollicking look at sex, religion, crime and relationships in one delicious read. The novel follows the exploits of Craig Connery, a sexy ex-con whose split-second decision to take another man’s identity puts him in the most unlikely position: that of impersonating a priest.

Now, this decidedly nonreligious man must make it as a man of God. His first mission? Running a nursing home in regional Australia.

What follows is a high-stakes farce of biblical proportions as Craig dissembles his way through a life he knows nothing about. Along the why, he’ll glimpse a world whose secrets rival his own—and discover the shocking truth about the church, the elderly, and himself.

So why not listen to this fun thirty minutes as we discuss items from Marmite to Religion, listen and find out all about Courtney J Webb and her writing as she is today's guest on "A Book and a Chat"
