A Book and a Chat with Jon Land
Jon Land is the author of over thirty critically acclaimed novels including the Caitlin Strong and the Blaine McCracken series. Today he is my guest on "A Book and a Chat" in a show that was a pleasure to host.
An extensive traveler as well as having a twenty five year career in martial arts, Jon started writing while at Brown University where he persuaded the faculty to accept a techno thriller as his honors thesis. From that start he has steadily produced hit novel after hit novel.
Female Texas Ranger Caitlin Strong has so far appeared in three books in the "Strong" series, "Strong Enough to Die", "Strong Justice", and "Strong at the Break". During the show we also learned that there are further Catlin books in the pipe line.
Blaine McCracken a rogue CIA agent and former Green Beret with the skills of James Bond but none of the Englishman's tact, is a central character who is featured in a series of techno-thriller novels.
Debuted in 1986 in the novel "The Omega Command" Blaine appeared in 9 books before Jon gave his character a rest after "Dead Simple".
Now 14 years later Blaine McCracken is back with us and more popular than ever in Jon Land's new book "Pandora’s Temple".
About "Pandora's Temple": (taken from Partners in Crime)
What if Pandora's box was real. That's the question facing Former Special Forces commando and rogue agent Blaine McCracken who returns from a 15-year absence from the page in his tenth adventure.
McCracken has never been shy about answering the call, and this time it comes in the aftermath of deepwater oilrig disaster that claims the life of a one-time member of his commando unit. The remnants of the rig and its missing crew lead him to the inescapable conclusion that one of the most mysterious and deadly forces in the Universe are to blame—dark matter, both a limitless source of potential energy and a weapon with unimaginable destructive capabilities.
Joining forces again with his trusty sidekick Johnny Wareagle, McCracken races to stop both an all-powerful energy magnate and the leader of a Japanese dooms-day cult from finding the dark matter they seek for entirely different, yet equally dangerous, reasons. Ultimately, that race will take him not only across the world, but also across time and history to the birth of an ancient legend that may not have been a legend at all. The truth lies 4,000 years in the past and the construction of the greatest structure known to man at the time:
Pandora’s Temple, built to safeguard the most powerful weapon man would ever know.
Now, with that very weapon having resurfaced, McCracken’s only hope to save the world is to find the temple, the very existence of which is shrouded in mystery and long lost to myth. Along the way, he and Johnny Wareagle find themselves up against Mexican drug gangs, killer robots, an army of professional assassins, and a legendary sea monster before reaching a mountaintop fortress where the final battle to preserve mankind will be fought.
The hero of nine previous bestselling thrillers, McCracken is used to the odds being stacked against him, but this time the stakes have never been higher.
As well as the follow up for "Caitlin Strong " we learned that further "Blaine McCracken" books are on their way from this prolific and bestselling author.

A Book and a Chat with Marie D. Jones
Marie D. Jones was my
fascinating guest on tonight’s “A Book and a Chat”. She has been involved with
the paranormal in one way or another for most of her life, this lead her into
the intriguing world of quantum physics.
Marie is the bestselling author of books such as "Destiny
Vs. Choice: The Scientific and Spiritual Evidence Behind Fate and Free
Will," "2013: End of Days or a New Beginning - Envisioning the World
After the Events of 2012," "PSIence: How New Discoveries In Quantum
Physics and New Science May Explain the Existence of Paranormal Phenomena"
and "Looking for God In All the Wrong Places."
Many of these she has
co-authored with Larry Flaxman.
Marie has also appeared on several TV shows such as "Nostradamus
Effect" series and "30 Odd Minutes" as well as being co-host on
the popular Dreamland radio show interviewing luminaries in the fields of the
paranormal.
After all the nonfiction writing, we learned Marie is now entering
the fiction world.
Not satisfied Marie is also looking to spread her talent to
the silver screen, currently developing "Twilight Child," a science
fiction feature film and a paranormal horror film called "19 Hz" with
Bruce Lucas Productions, and she is also developing a paranormal-related
television series for tweens.
Marie’s latest book is “THIS
BOOK IS FROM THE FUTURE: A JOURNEY THROUGH PORTALS, RELATIVITY, WORMHOLES AND
OTHER ADVENTURES IN TIME TRAVEL." In which Marie ponders the
ethical and moral concerns of time travel, in terms of paradoxes-- if you
change something in the past, will it change things in the present-- to the
point where you won't exist anymore?
As one reviewer put it…
“This Book Is From The Future-A Journey Through Portals, Relativity,
Worm Holes” by Marie D. Jones and Larry Flaxmanis a fascinating entry into the
potential world of time travel. The book is well researched with proponents on both
sides of the feasibility argument. The contents of this workwill provide
rigorous debate over the notion of time travel until working models are built
and tested in the coming years.

A Book and a Chat with Gary Grossman
It is a welcome back onto the show for today’s guest Gary Grossman.
When previously on “A Book and a Chat” we learned how Gary’s path had lead him not only to produce two wonderful non fictions books two nonfiction books “Superman Serial to Cereal” and “Saturday Morning TV” to a career that has brought him numerous awards including the prestigious Governor's Emmy Award for their USA Network special, "Healing the Hate" and an Emmy for Best Informational series for “Wolfgang Puck” for Food Network.
From starting as disc jockey on WHUC at the age of 15 Gary spread his wings through television. Now along with Robb Weller he forms “Weller/Grossman Productions” , a prolific documentary and service and information television production company that have produced more than 6,000 programs first two books of a Trilogy which some call “Political Thriller” but he prefers “Political Reality”.
The early success if “EXECUTIVE ACTIONS” and “EXECUTIVE TREASON” have now been followed by a third book “EXECUTIVE COMMAND”.
About “EXECUTIVE COMMAND”: (taken from Vic’s Media Room)
The clock is ticking down to an attack on America’s most vulnerable natural resource: Water. Our nation’s water resources are high on terrorist target lists, but low on America’s consciousness. Water sources are largely unprotected, providing open access to any enemy with chemicals and biotoxins.
So far we’ve been lucky. But that luck won’t last.
This is the all-too-real-and-present danger facing President Morgan Taylor and Secret Service Agent Scott Roarke as they desperately try to prevent hell-bent terrorists from destroying America and its infrastructure city by city, and state by state.
Fact-based in frightening detail, Executive Command is a political thriller that will leave you pondering its strong possibility the next time you pour a glass of water.
The fast moving, thrill a minute, novel will not only keep you turning the pages but also make you wonder about the possible terrifying situation that we could face in the world today.
As one reviewer put it…
One of a trilogy by Gary Grossman. Excellent series each story following through from the previous. Have just finished the third title Executive Command - each was a page turner and the genre - US political action thrillers - are a bit of a 'habit' with me even though I am not a US citizen. The plot is well thought out, the characters interesting and believable overall with plenty going on to keep the interest high. I have already recommended the trilogy to others.
I can only add my own recommendation for not just this latest book but the whole of the trilogy.

A Book and a Chat with Sandi Craig
Sandi Craig did things somewhat in the reverse order, got
married and had children and then started out on her career, and what a career
as we learned during today’s “A Book and a Chat”.
She started off as a news anchor for an ABC affiliate in the
Midwest as well as being a News Reporter for a CBS affiliate in Texas, brining
her many awards for her unique perspective. During this time Sandi had the
opportunity to interview such notables as Christopher Reeve, Dick Cheney, President
Bill Clinton to name just a few.
Moving to Los Angeles two years ago she decided to learn
more about the movie industry from the inside taking on many roles in both film
and TV to “learn the trade”. She has now produced several screenplays which
might well move on into novels, her latest being “Pawn”.
About “Pawn”: (taken from Sandi’s web site)
A woman fears her husband’s mistress is using her son to drive her mad.
PAWN is a psychological thriller about a woman who’s husband’s mistress is trying to destroy her by driving her insane.
Fiona
thinks she’s been living the American dream, but she finds out her
husband’s been cheating and is leaving her for a woman he met online.
Fiona is terribly haunted after she discovers the affair. Strange things start happening to her.
Fiona’s
husband is given custody of their son, and this infuriates Fiona to the
point that she starts investigating the mistress. She discovers the
mistress' dark past, but when she tries to tell people, no one believes
her. She breaks into the mistress’ house to gather evidence to use
against the mistress, and the plan backfires when the mistress catches
her and tortures her.
With several other screen plays and sitcoms underway, her passion for writing is just
another string to Sandi’s bow that already includes that of a broadcaster,
actor, TV host and singer.

A Book and a Chat with C. Elizabeth
Whenever we had plums or prunes when I was young or in fact
anything with stones, we used to count them up afterwards with the “tinker, tailor,
soldier, sailor… rhyme. My guest today could almost relate to that going though
the artistic hobbies she’s had.
C Elizabeth, has dabbled in many different things, art,
photography, needlework, you name it she’s tried it, but always the original momentum
has died out and she has got bored with the hobby.
That was until she started listening to the story in her
head and writing her first book in 2009, even then the ending came to her
before the beginning and she basically wrote each chapter backwards. However
the story was there and with becoming an author found the artistic outlet she’d
always been looking for.
Written in just 11days her first book “Absolute Obsession”
was her first book, and the start of what will be a three book series. This contemporary
adult romance novel was quickly followed by book two of the series “Absolute
Obstruction” and a third book is already in the editing stage.
After her initial success, C. Elizabeth has now turned her
hand to YA literature in the shape of her latest book, the absorbing YA
paranormal novel “Soul Control”.
About “Soul Control”: (taken from Amazon)
“Lead us not into temptation, deliver us from evil.”
These words ring true for seventeen-year-old Saydi Gardiner upon discovering her ancestry. But if she has any doubts, further confirmation is forthcoming and it comes in the form of a wickedly gorgeous Nathanael Braxton, when he steals her heart and cuddles into her sole – the last place the boy should be.
Nineteen-year-old Nathanael’s unrelenting good looks aren’t the only thing that make him dangerous – and he knows it! However, his caring half-human self struggles with a loyalty – a loyalty that binds him to the hunt for the soul that will give his family the power they seek. There’s only one problem: When he finds her, Nathanael falls in love with his prey – Saydi.

The book has already received many great reviews from the YA
blogosphere, comments such as…
This book was engrossing from the very beginning, with a
great plot and great characters. It was a fantastic take on the “good vs.
evil” battle, with neither side being entirely good nor entirely evil.
That made all of the characters that much more believable, despite their
obvious paranormal backgrounds.
I also liked that the story didn’t just center on
Nathanael and Saydi the entire book, but included the other characters with
true stories of their own. The story line between Nathanael and his mom
was one of my favorites, full of raw emotion and angst. The struggles
between Saydi and her three best friends were ever changing and their
involvement with Nathanael’s brothers added a lot to the story.
(The Caffeinated Diva)
With the third book in the “Absolute Obsession” series, plus
a others in her YA series I can see the name C. Elizabeth being one to follow
in the future.

A Book and a Chat with Brandt Dobson
Brandt Dobson, today’s guest on “A Book and a Chat”
discovered at grade school that he wanted to write, however it was not for some
twenty years later that he finally put pen to paper.
Sidetracked by work with
the FBI, Navy and Podiatric Medicine it took a while for Brandt to follow his
true calling, including a wait of twelve years before he finally got the dreamed of book contract.
His first book “Original Sin” soon had his name and that if
his hero “Colton Parker” on the must read for detective/thriller readers. This
first book in the Colton Parker Mystery Series” was soon followed by “Seventy
Times Seven”, “The Root of All Evil” and “The Lost Sheep”.
The series has become a popular must read with readers clambering
for more of Colton Parker, now though Brandt has put before his readers a new
series that looks like being even more popular than Colton Parker.
“The Sons Of Dude” is the first in ”The Sons of Dude Series
and introduces us to not one but three characters that readers will be able to
follow in future novels in the series.
About “The Sons of Dude”: (taken from Seatlepi blog)
The Sons of Jude is about the challenges cops face and how they often come
from within their own ranks. The novel revolves around three central
characters: Frank
Campello, a twenty-year veteran of the Chicago police department; Andy
Polanski, a newly-minted detective who is transferred to Campello's
district after ratting on other cops; and Christy
Lee, a local reporter with a grudge against the police.
With a mix like that, conflict is
inevitable. It was a lot of fun to write.
Judging by the reviews so far it was
not just fun to write but is proving to be great fun to read. Comments like “..a very well written suspense, thriller that provided a few twists and a satisfying end.," litter his many reviews.
