A Book and a Chat with Mike Faricy

My guest on today's "A Book and a Chat" is award winning author Mike Faricy .  His novels are an addictive combination of mystery and suspense woven together with a rich strain of humor and a bit of romance.

Always into books from an early age Mike entertaining and engrossing tales are filled with the sort of quirky, oddball characters many would like to know more about, but wisely prefer to keep at a distance. Many of the characters serve, not so much as examples of real people, but more as warnings to the rest of us of the darker side of humanity. Readers will not find characters who are saving the world from terrorism, international banking conspiracies, or coups to topple the government. Rather, they are part of our world, living just below the surface of polite society. The difficulties the characters find themselves in are usually due to their own bad decisions, but then, bad decisions make for interesting tales.

From Mike’s first book “Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick” his crime novel which now number 14 include seven in the marvelous series which introduces us to the bizarrely devilish Devlin Haskell as a PI with a foot on both sides of the law. From the first book in the series “Russian Roulette” through others such as “Mr. Softee “ and “Bite Me” to his latest release the “Ting-a-ling”.

About “Ting-A-Ling”

Continuing the Dev Haskell - Private Investigator Series with Case 7

After answering Danielle’s middle of the night phone call, private investigator Dev Haskell offers to help. It’s a simple task. All he has to do is deliver a message to her former business partner. The next thing he knows, Dev is involved in a missing person case and he can’t find his client or her business partner. That turns out to be the least of his problems when he finds himself on the hook for murder and all the evidence points toward him.

Meanwhile, an incident from his childhood continues to haunt Dev. With his very freedom hanging in the balance everything seems to be beyond his control. He’ll need all his skill and a good deal of luck to save himself. In a tale fraught with danger, Mike Faricy, Master of the Bizarre lays one twist on top of another until a murder rap becomes the least of Dev’s problems.

A Book and a Chat with Mary Crockett

My guest today is Mary Crockett, an award winning poet and one of the co-authors of a great new YA novel "Dream Boy".

Mary wrote her first poem at the age of 8, an epic about impending nuclear holocaust being diverted by a plucky little eight-year-old girl and her legion of insect friends. Amy and the Ants” was written in rhyming couplets and went on for several pages. Sadly, it was never finished.

Though her first income was for being a hand model for a toilet seat. She continued to write award winning poetry.  Deciding to move on to writing novel Mary paired up with author Madelyn Rosenberg, the result of which is a debut and really entertaining YA novel “Dream Boy”.

About “Dream Boy”:

Annabelle Manning feels like she’s doing time at her high school in Chilton, Virginia. She has her friends at her lunchtime table of nobodies. What she doesn’t have are possibilities. Or a date for Homecoming. Things get more interesting at night, when she spends time with the boy of her dreams. But the blue-eyed boy with the fairytale smile is just that—a dream. Until the Friday afternoon he walks into her chemistry class.

One of friends suspects he’s an alien. Another is pretty sure it’s all one big case of déjà vu. While Annabelle doesn’t know what to think, she’s willing to believe that the charming Martin Zirkle may just be her dream come true. But as Annabelle discovers the truth behind dreams—where they come from and what they mean—she is forced to face a dark reality she had not expected. More than just Martin has arrived in Chilton. As Annabelle learns, if dreams can come true, so can nightmares.

In other words this great book could be summed up as…

Girl dreams boy. Girl meets boy. Girl, boy, and friends save universe

When Earth is invited to join the Collective, the holos choose Clara as liaison between Earth and the Many Worlds Collective to make the secret visits public and guide Earth’s new leaders.

The Collective works with Clara to create the Psi-Warriors who fight the leaders of the resistance, the Psi-Defiers. With multiple re-sets needed to revise the past and future to save lives, in which of the timelines in the multiverse does her love, Epifanio Dang, get to be with Clara? A Book and a Chat with H. A. Somerled

H. A. Somerled (Heather) todays guest on “A Book and a Chat”  lives in the Missoula, Montana area.

After an uneventful tour in the U.S. Navy, she followed her passions and enrolled in Culinary School. She graduated from the Colorado Institute of Art and has also completed a writing course from the Long Ridge Writer’s Group.

From an early age Heather wrote little stories including one about her morning routine where her mother says “Now is the time is the time is the time.” In eighth grade she had a teacher who encouraged pupils to write a journal and hand it in every week. Heather wrote about a creature in her locker (named the Lockerness Monster) who ate her homework, stole one gym sock or shoe, and caused her a lot of grief in middle school. Since then she has written short stories whenever the inspiration hit her.

After watching Sherlock and The Adventures of Merlin and fascinated by the two main actors, (Benedict Cumberbatch and Colin Morgan) Heather thought they could play brothers. Then she thought they could be a police officer and a smart ass brother who always got in trouble. Threw in a female American hacker to spice things up, and it blossomed into her debut novel “Angel’s Code”, which is now closely followed by “Angel’s Betrayal” both part of the “Angel Hacker Series”.

About “Angel’s Betrayal”

Its summertime and insects are not the only thing flying in the London skies. Oliver and Danny Murray return in this explosive second in the series novel. When two C.I.A. agents appear in Oliver Murray’s office, he knows nothing good could come from it. An American drone has gone missing and the agents believe the one of their own has taken it. The agent’s name is Sara Parsons, also known as Fallen Angel. Maintaining her innocence, Angel tries to find the real thief, but when one of the agents sent to arrest her turns up dead in her flat, Oliver has a hard time believing her. With the help from his brother, Danny, Oliver betrays his own instincts and decides to help Angel find the true murderer and drone thief.

As one reviewer put it… “Intelligent and fast paced, the action is very fun to read with the author's irreverent humor sprinkled throughout the story”. The name H.A. Somerled is one to look for on your book shelves.

A Book and a Chat with Suzanne Palmeiri

Every so often I get contacted by or have the name of a new author sent to me to see if I think they “might be a good fit for the show”. It is rare that I ever say no, however if the author is a fellow Connecticut author. So I was at the time glad to have her as a guest and now am equally glad to have her back again to find out what she has been up to since our last chat.

After her success with her two debut books  “The Witch of Little Italy” is a book that has international success and . “I’ll Be Seeing You,” co written with Loretta Nyhan under the name of Suzanne Hayes. Comes two more books that are already proving that the quality of success of those debut books was no one off.

In Suzanne's  thrilling new novel, The Witch of Belladonna Bay, readers will learn if love and magic are enough to bring a broken family back together. She along once again with co writer Loretta Nyhan has produced "The Empire Girls" riveting tale of two sisters, set in the intoxicating world of New York City during the Roaring Twenties.

About "The Witch of Belladonna Bay" : (taken from RJ Julia)

Are love and magic enough to bring a broken family back together? The answer can be found in Suzanne Palmieri’s enchanting new novel, The Witch of Belladonna Bay featuring the incomparable Bronwyn – and her magic – once again. This is the much anticipated follow-up to Suzanne’s debut, The Witch of Little Italy, which received high praise.

In The Witch of Belladonna Bay, Bronwyn is forced to return home to Magnolia Creek, Alabama—a place she hasn’t been since her mother, Naomi, died fourteen years earlier—and the troubled family she left behind. With her brother Patrick behind bars for the murder of her childhood friend and her eccentric father, Jackson, at wits end with her eleven year old niece Byrd, Bronwyn finds herself back at her childhood home, the Big House, and surrounded by ancient Magnolia trees dripping with Spanish moss. But before she can even take in what she left behind, she’s wrapped up in the mysteries surrounding the murder and what the “Strange Ways” running through little Byrd might mean. As Bronwyn unravels the secrets behind the murder, long forgotten memories surface, and the magic living quietly inside of her grows stronger, creating an unbreakable bond between her and Byrd—a bond that will define both of their fates forever.

About "Empire Girls":

Ivy and Rose Adams may be sisters, but they're nothing alike. Rose, the eldest, is the responsible one, while Ivy is spirited and brazen. After the unexpected death of their father, the women are left to reconcile the estate, when they make a shocking discovery: not only has their father left them in financial ruin, but he has also bequeathed their beloved family house to a brother they never knew existed. With only a photograph to guide the way, Ivy and Rose embark to New York City, determined to find this mysterious man and reclaim what is rightfully theirs.

Once in New York, temptations abound at every turn, and soon the sisters are drawn into the glitzy underbelly of Manhattan, where they must overcome their differences and learn to trust each other if they're going to survive in the big city and find their brother. Filled with unforgettable characters and charm, Empire Girls is a love letter to 1920s New York, and a captivating story of the unspoken bond between sisters.

A Book and a Chat with Bruce Sarte

Making a welcome return on today’s “A Book and a Chat” is my guest Bruce Sarte.

An accomplished songwriter with two gold records to his credit, Bruce lives just outside of Philadelphia with his wife and three children. In addition to writing, he enjoys baseball, playing guitar, reading, church, cooking and being a dad. Bruce grew up at the Jersey Shore (the picture is at Point Pleasant Beach, where Sands of Time is set) and graduated from Admiral Farragut Academy in Pine Beach, NJ where he first became enthralled with reading and writing. From his early influences Bruce was introduced to and fell in love with Shakespeare, Marlow, Henry James and Nathaniel Hawthorne. In addition to his books, Bruce has written for The Bleacher Report, The Father Life and The Examiner.

Bruce has published the vampire thriller Sands of Time, the paranormal murder mystery Towering Pines Volume One: Room 509, the story of how God selected The Star of Christmas, stories in the horror anthology Bump in the Night 2010, Bump in the Night 2011 and Bump in the Night 2013 horror anthologies; plus the Kindle/Nook only offerings -- the historical mystery of Sweet Nessie, the top selling horror short-story Best Friends Forever about two friends who have been kidnapped by a secretive cult and The Show Must Go On, a story about an old theater and its last gasp of breathe... literally.

The thrilling detective novels, Philadelphia Story (Lance Carter #1) and The Insider's Story (Lance Carter #2) have stormed to the top of the Amazon charts quickly after their release.

We learned during the show that "Sands of Time" is being re-written for a TV film, also about brice's latest book due to be released the end of this month The Kill Commission" which introduces us to a new character in the shape of Tim Rutherford.

About "The Kill Commission"

When Tim Rutherford's daughter is brutally murdered, it opens up a chasm inside of him that can only be filled by one thing -- justice. But, when justice fails his little girl this highly trained federal agent realizes there is only one way to fill the chasm: revenge.

And The Kill Commission is just the group to give it to him.

The Commission is filled with people just like Tim, all have been wronged by the justice system -- and all want their own slice of revenge. And they've recruited Tim to do their dirty work. Tim sets forth doing the Commission's dirty work until he realizes that they aren't what they seem -- and he has to right the wrongs that have been done.
