A Book and a Chat with Mary Crockett

My guest today is Mary Crockett, an award winning poet and one of the co-authors of a great new YA novel "Dream Boy".

Mary wrote her first poem at the age of 8, an epic about impending nuclear holocaust being diverted by a plucky little eight-year-old girl and her legion of insect friends. Amy and the Ants” was written in rhyming couplets and went on for several pages. Sadly, it was never finished.

Though her first income was for being a hand model for a toilet seat. She continued to write award winning poetry.  Deciding to move on to writing novel Mary paired up with author Madelyn Rosenberg, the result of which is a debut and really entertaining YA novel “Dream Boy”.

About “Dream Boy”:

Annabelle Manning feels like she’s doing time at her high school in Chilton, Virginia. She has her friends at her lunchtime table of nobodies. What she doesn’t have are possibilities. Or a date for Homecoming. Things get more interesting at night, when she spends time with the boy of her dreams. But the blue-eyed boy with the fairytale smile is just that—a dream. Until the Friday afternoon he walks into her chemistry class.

One of friends suspects he’s an alien. Another is pretty sure it’s all one big case of déjà vu. While Annabelle doesn’t know what to think, she’s willing to believe that the charming Martin Zirkle may just be her dream come true. But as Annabelle discovers the truth behind dreams—where they come from and what they mean—she is forced to face a dark reality she had not expected. More than just Martin has arrived in Chilton. As Annabelle learns, if dreams can come true, so can nightmares.

In other words this great book could be summed up as…

Girl dreams boy. Girl meets boy. Girl, boy, and friends save universe

A Book and a Chat with Heather McLaren

My guest on today’s program is Heather McLaren is a Cherokee writer living in southern Illinois with her husband and four children. She began her life in an unfortunate situation, much like thousands of children in this country. She was born to a fifteen-year-old mother who could not take care of her.

From such a start heather was lucky to find her new parents both caring and able to help her realize her own potential. They told Heather the sky was the limit when it came to what she could accomplish in life.
Life though continued to have issues and abusive marriage and the loss of her first child before she was 21.

Then came the birth of Kimber Liliana—a child the doctors said could never survive the stroke she had suffered in the womb. Seven long months later Heather brought Kimber home to the amazement of the doctors. Though Kimber is still bedridden from spastic cerebral palsy, she celebrated her eleventh birthday last May—a joyous event Heather never takes for granted.

Life shad not finished with Heather and she was then herself diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but instead of giving in to her disease, she picked herself up, met and married her soul mate and began writing fantasy novels.

The result is “Mythos” the first book in “The Mer Chronicles” and what looks to me like being a truly wonderful YA Fantasy “must read” series.

About “Mythos” :

True love was the last thing David Cooley expected to find in the Bahamas, But the moment he laid eyes on Faren Sands, he knew he had found the girl of his dreams. How could he know she was a mermaid from the lost island of Atlantis?

Because of the strict laws regarding human contact, the couple flee the consequences of their forbidden passion, while at the same time they struggle to survive a conflict that has been brewing between the mermaids and sea demons for millennia.

Once the epic battle begins, fate forces David to make a decision that will forever affect his young life. Should he stick by the woman he loves, risking his mortality for a civilization that hates him?

Heather herself states how she wrote the book to inspire people…

She wanted to embrace her husband's kind and and protective nature, thus bringing David Cooley's character to life. (Her son) Bryce's loyalty shines through as David's best friend, and (her daughter) Charlie's innocent and inquisitive nature and (her step daughter) Dakota's playfulness triumph in future books. Heather's youngest child's bravery and determination to live despite her handicap was inspiration enough to immortalize her in black and white. By creating Cindel's character (for Kimber), Heather hopes that readers will see people with special needs as having the same potential as every one else.

So listen now and share an interesting and entertaining show as I chat with my special guest today on A Book and a Chat with Heather McLaren

A Book and a Chat with Carla Neggers

Carla Neggers is a New York Times and US Today best selling author of coming up to 70 novels, which have been translations in 24 languages. However it all started high up in a sugar maple tree which was her escape location from the rest of her large family, and where she first started penning her own stories.

First published when in her early twenties, Carla has gone from producing romance stories, to western, detectives and adventure, along the way selling millions of copies of her work. Her Texas Rangers and U.S Marshall series have been followed by the FBI and Black Falls series.

Over the last few years two fresh series “ Sharpe & Donovan” and “Swift River Valley” have been flowing from this hugely talented author.

Now we have two new books in each of these series.

Cider Brook is book 3 in the Swift River Valley series, released January this year.

About “Cider Brook”:

Being rescued by a good-looking, bad-boy firefighter isn’t how Samantha Bennett expected to start her stay in Knights Bridge, Massachusetts. Now she has everyone’s attention—especially that of Justin Sloan, her rescuer, who wants to know why she was camped out in an abandoned old New England cider mill.

Declan's Cross which is book 3 in the Sharpe & Donovan soon to be followed by book 4 “Harbor Island

About “Declan’s Cross:

An escape to an idyllic Irish seaside village is about to turn deadly in this riveting new novel by master of romantic suspense Carla Neggers.

For marine biologist Julianne Maroney, two weeks in tiny Declan’s Cross on the south Irish coast is a chance to heal her broken heart. She doesn’t expect to attract the attention of FBI agents Emma Sharpe and Colin Donovan-especially since a Donovan is the reason for her broken heart.

As well as the re-release the Texas Rangers series under the name “The Carriage House” sereis.

About “The Carriage House”:

Neggers delivers a colorful, well-spun story that shines with sincere emotion.” –Publishers Weekly
Fun and a little hard work. That’s all Tess Haviland had in mind when Ike Grantham paid her for her graphic design work with the run-down, 19th-century carriage house on Boston’s North Shore

A Book and a Chat with Melissa Landers

Melissa Landers my guest today, was one of the Class of 2K13 however her debut YA Sci-Fi romance novels publication was delayed so she is now my first member of the Class of 2K14 to appear on this year’s “A Book and a Chat” shows.

Not that she is a debut author over all writing under the name “Macy Beckett” she is the author of “The Sultry Springs” series and “The Dumont Bachelors” series of romance novels.

Her novel “Alientated” though the first book she ever wrote, has taken a few years to finally see the light of day, but believe me it is a book well worth waiting for, and from the number of pre read request on sites such as “Goodreads” it seems many others believe the same.

About “Alienated”: (taken from OneFourKidLit site)

Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara’s classmates get swept up by anti-L’eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn’t safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara’s locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she’s fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

Alienated was finally released this month receiving great reviews many already asking for book 2 which is already written and will be released early 2015.

A Book and a Chat with Andre Phillip-Hautecoeur

Andre Phillip-Hautecoeur is not a writer, or that is how he defines himself, he is simply a person who had an urge to share something with an audience and write something about Paris. This he explains during today’s "A Book and a Chat”.

Paris is a city where romance, history, fantasy and enchantment meet, Andre’s novel “One Exquisite Night in Paris” is that and so much more.

Andre came to know and love Paris hanging onto the hem of his wife’s skirt. She’s Parisian, she’s everything French without constraint; she makes understanding all of Parisness a pleasure. An understanding which made him want to write this novel.

About “One Exquisite Night in Paris”: (taken from The Broken Bookshelf blog)

It’s a real story. A boy-meets-girl version of a girl-meets-boy story where she’s from Paris and doesn’t speak any English, while he’s from New York and speaks no French, and they only have one amazing thing in common. It’s a story for all who have yet to experience the most amazing night of their lives; a night impossible to live anywhere else but Paris…purposefully the most wonderfully enchanting city in the entire world. Enchantment, fantasy, luxury and fairytale all converge in only two places; once in our dreams and once when our dreams meet Paris. Everyone should live the perfect fantasy of “One Exquisite Night in Paris.”

It’s hard to give a genre to One Exquisite Night in Paris. The novel is an autobiography, telling the story of how Andre and his wife Eff meet. However, it is also a tour guide to the most amazing places in France and a lesson on France’s history and culture.

The novel alternates between Andre telling the story of him and his wife trying to start a life together, and his attempts to plan their ‘One Exquisite Night in Paris’. There are a few points in time where it may take a moment to realise that the story has switched from one tale to the other but it is generally a smooth read.

An unusual writing style is used in the novel, one which reminds me of something that was written in the late 1800s. Something about the style draws the reader in, especially since the writing matches the magical tone set in the novel when talking about Paris and romance.

"One Exquisite Night in Paris" is a novel is full of enchantment, fantasy, luxury and fairytale that converge in only two places; once in our dreams and once when our dreams meet Paris. The story distills into a perfect night; creating a memory which lasts forever.

A Book and a Chat with Laura V Hilton

Today is the last “A Book and a Chat” for 2103 a year that for me has not been one o f the better 365 days, however along the way I’ve had some great guests on the show and for this final of 2013 I have another one in the form of romance writer Laura V Hilton.

Always a writer from a  very early age it was not until 2004 that she got her first book published in the form of the romance novel “Hot Chocolate”, this was followed by “Shadows of the Past”.

These early novel s were the stepping stones to the trilogies that have firmly put the name of Laura V Hilton on the romance writer map.
The first trilogy “The Amish of Seymour” which consists of “Patchwork Dreams”, “A Harvest of hearts” and “Promised to Another” made her a best seller, with many, many glowing reviews for her books. From this success a second trilogy “Amish of Webster County” was produced consisting of “Healing Love”, “Surrendered Love” and the just released “Awakened Love”.

About “Awakened Love”: (taken from Amazon)

A Bashful Baker--Twenty-one-year-old Katie Detweiler loves to bake. When she's hired at a local bed-and-breakfast to do just that, she's excited, especially because the owner promises the shy young woman that she won't have to leave the kitchen. But when her boss's husband requires round-the-clock care, Katie is forced to overcome her shyness and wait on customers, as well. Before long, a "customer" reveals himself to be a private investigator who informs Katie that she was adopted, and that her biological sister needs a bone marrow transplant.

A Man on the Run--Twenty-two-year-old Abram Hilty has fled the drama of Shipshewana, Indiana, for Seymour, Missouri, where he's staying with his cousin Micah Graber. His plan is to hide, from a girl he no longer cares about; and also from a cold-blooded killer. Uncomfortable sharing his past and afraid of the consequences, he buries his troubles deep inside. When he meets Katie Detweiler, he is immediately attracted, but his pursuit of her is complicated by the problems of his past. An Adventure Unfolds--As Katie wrestles with questions of identity, she also struggles to navigate her blossoming romance with Abram, in the face of opposition from a jealous friend. As their relationship becomes more serious, Abram can no longer conceal the truth about his past.

But parts of that past rear their heads, barring the way for a marriage between them; at least for now. Through dangers and near-death experiences, Katie and Abram must find their way back to each other. But only the power of forgiveness can bring them together for good.

With a fresh trilogy “The Amish of Jamesport” due out next year along with a non Amish novel  “The Appalachian Ballad Quilt”, the writings of  Laura V Hilton will continue to be read and enjoyed by an ever increasing audience.

A Book and a Chat with Jennifer Wilck

If you like your romance novels with spunky heroines, strong heroes with just a touch of vulnerability, then my guest Jennifer Wilck is the author for you.
When Jennifer was young, rather than counting sheep when she had issues getting to sleep her mother told her to make up stories in her head hoping she would go to sleep. This soon became a routine which she admitted is something she still does to this day.

Eventually the voice became so strong she one day decided to write these stories down the results of which are now available for all to enjoy. Her first two book are “A Heart of Little Faith” and “Skin Deep”.

A Heart of Little Faith:

Lily Livingston is a widow raising her six-year-old daughter, Claire, in New York City. Devastated by her husband's death three years ago, she's in no hurry to fall in love again. Besides, trying to balance her career with motherhood leaves her little time for romance. With a wheelchair instead of a white horse, and a vow against falling in love again as his armor, Gideon Stone is the last person Lily expects to sweep her off her feet. But when a business agreement forces the two of them together, that is exactly what happens. As they navigate the minefield that fast represents their relationship, can either of them overcome the obstacles to find true happiness in each others arms? The answer is yes, but the bumps along the way demonstrate that neither of them can go it alone

Skin Deep:

The last thing Valerie needs, after escaping an abusive marriage to an alcoholic and rebuilding her life, is a broody, secretive, standoffish man. But that's exactly what she gets when she becomes a makeup artist on the set of a hit sitcom and draws the attention of the series' star. John Samuels hides a terrible past--a life of abuse and neglect. A successful acting career and the affection and support of cast, crew and friends, does nothing to convince him that he is anything other than an unlovable monster. Will he learn that the life he's been living has been built on a lie or will he be doomed to repeat the sins of his father?

These two have now been followed what promises to be the first of a series “The Seduction of Esther”.

About “The Seduction of Esther” : (taken from authors web site)

Samara Goldberg has a problem even the most beautiful singing voice can’t fix. She’s a walking disaster, especially when she’s around handsome men. To make matters worse, she’s in desperate need of someone to play the character of Mordecai for the Purim spiel she’s producing and the new congregant, Nathaniel Abramson, is a perfect fit. Nathaniel is a divorced dad who’s recovering from the biggest public scandal of his life. The last thing he needs is a relationship with the choir director at his new synagogue, who also happens to be playing the lead female role of Esther in the very play he’s been coerced into joining.

Woven around the Jewish holiday of Purim, The Seduction of Esther is a story of two people whose lives mirror the plot of the Purim story. Like Esther, who had to hide her Jewish identity from the King of Persia, Samara and Nathaniel are hiding key pieces of themselves. Evil Haman wanted to destroy the Jews, and the nasty Josh will do anything to keep Samara and Nathaniel apart. Will their love survive, like the Jewish people in Shushan, Persia, or will their fear keep them apart?

With a follow up to “The Seduction of Esther” and a story based around an old house already underway, the name Jennifer Wilck is one for lovers of romance need to follow.

A Book and a Chat with Dina von Lowenkraft

Despite a storm causing severe program interruptions during tonight’s show, my guest Dina von Lowenkraft managed to get through the show and towards the end without line interruption. Mind you, the fact that Dina is in Belgium and it was gone midnight there, alone was a challenge, but in the end the show was well worth getting through.

Dina was born in the US and has lived on 4 continents, worked as a graphic artist for television and as a consultant in the fashion industry before producing her first but I’m sure not last novel. The ability to create her own worlds and share them with the reader is helped by her being a black belt in Karate and a keen horse rider. In her debut YA fantasy novel “Dragon Fire” Dina is able to paint with words the land and the characters that merge together to make a “must read” debut novel.

About “Dragon Fire “:  (taken from Amazon)

Some choices are hard to live with.
But some choices will kill you.

When seventeen-year-old Anna first meets Rakan in her hometown north of the Arctic Circle, she is attracted to his pulsing energy. Unaware that he is a shape-shifting dragon, Anna is drawn into a murderous cycle of revenge that pits Rakan and his clan against her best friend June.

Torn between his forbidden relationship with Anna, punishable by death, and restoring his family’s honor by killing June, Rakan must decide what is right. And what is worth living – or dying – for.

The story is set in arctic Norway which enables Dina to share a unique world where humans and dragons and other mythical creatures are the norm. She is able to introduce intriguing secondary characters in the book, which can only lead to further books from this “one to follow” author.

As one reviewer put it…

I was so involved when reading this book that I found myself caught up in the drama and splendor of this mystical realm. The characters were interesting and well defined and the story was interesting, exciting and entertaining.

I'm looking forward to reading her next book!
Reviewer… me too!!!

A Book and a Chat with Kristin Kuhns Alexandre

My guest on today’s "A Book and a Chat” is writer, journalist, newscaster, on-air reporter, executive film producer and author of her recently published book "Gem City Gypsy"… Kristin Kuhns Alexandre.

Kristin has been writing since she was a 16-year-old as a newspaper feature writer for The Kettering Oakwood Times in Dayton, Ohio. Her debut novel “Gem City Gypsy” is based on her graphic novel Nuncio and the Gypsy Girl in the Gilded Age (Runnymede Press). It is like an American version of Downton Abbey, based around her home town of Dayton, Ohio and the real story of America circa 1917-21.

About Gem City Gypsy:

The period between post-adolescence and adulthood – that time known as “coming of age” – can often be painful and confusing. For Neci Stans, a 19-year-old gypsy girl in pre-World War I Dayton, Ohio, the stakes are raised as she experiences first-hand an historic tragedy at sea and deadly bigotry at home.

In Kristin Kuhns Alexandre’s new novel GEM CITY GYPSY, Neci’s harrowing journey of self-discovery includes surviving the sinking of the Lusitania, witnessing the brutal murder of her master and mentor Lord Pool and facing down the ever-menacing Ku Klux Klan.

Alexandre first published Neci’s story in a graphic novel entitled NUNCIO AND THE GYPSY GIRL, which was narrated by an African Grey Parrot named Nuncio. The story is set on the eve of World War I in Dayton, which was regarded as the Silicon Valley of its day for its liveliness and industry. Neci, a strong-willed Gypsy princess, attempts to reinvent herself and move up socially. She wants to live a full, passionate life. She is in love with her childhood sweetheart, the aviator Ezra Crawford, who is ultimately engaged to the wealthy and beautiful Marlene Schiller. Ezra is also the son of Head Klansman Harold Crawford.

In 1915, celebrity writer Elbert and Alice Hubbard decide to make the Atlantic crossing on the Lusitania and Neci accompanies them as a servant, finding herself on deck when the ship is struck by a German torpedo. The Hubbards choose to go down with the ship, but Neci makes it to a lifeboat and survives. She spends two years as a housemaid to Lord Pool who schools her to be a proper lady. But Germans break into their Kinsale, Ireland home and murder her beloved master. Before Neci evacuates Ireland she steals Lord Pool’s lockbox filled with jewels and returns home under a false identity. Her life becomes more and more complicated; as she must confront her past and face the brutal stepfather she ultimately kills.

The book would understandably make a fantastic film something Kristin is eagerly pushing for. When you have reviews such as that from Vanity Fair shown below you can understand what a great book and hopefully film Gym City Gypsy is.

What a page turner! In breathless prose that's never less than highly entertaining, Kristin Alexandre takes her gypsy heroine on a dark journey from one rapacious benefactor to the next, until Neci Stans starts a rise to riches in the heart of the midwest that no reader will ever forget."--Michael Shnayerson, Contributing Editor, Vanity Fair

A Book and a Chat with Danelle Harmon

After six shows about bullying it is good to get back to my normal format, not that I have not enjoyed and found very informational the shows on the bullying subject. I could not have asked for a better guest to get back into the old routine than New York Times and USA Today and International best selling and award winning Historical Romance author Danelle (yes that’s spelt right) Harmon.

Danelle has a life that almost matches her own writings when it comes to romance, leaving her home and family and travelling 3000 miles to be with somebody she’d met and fallen in love with on the internet.  Having been in the same boat… rather airplane as her but while my trip was from the UK to the USA, Danelle followed her heart to be with and marry the man she’d fallen in love with in England.

As Danelle describes it…

How did a Yankee girl who used to be a 1775-era minuteman in a Boston re-enactment group end up in ENGLAND, of all places? Well, in 1994, I met a wonderful man over the Internet. He was handsome, intelligent, all that a romantic hero should be... but there was just one little catch -- he was English, and lived 3,000 miles away! Love always wins in the end, though, and following a romantic courtship in which our gilded coaches bore the names "British Airways" and "Virgin Atlantic," the good doctor from England asked me to marry him.

This romance can be found in her award winning historical romance books which have received many hundreds of fantastic reviews on Amazon.

From her first book “Pirate in Arms” to her “Hero’s of the Sea” and “De Montforte” series the name Danelle Harmon has become one that all lovers of historical romance have read an enjoyed. Indeed her book “The Wild One” (first in the “De Montforte” series) has well over 500 reviews on Amazon.

Gareth impulsively weds her, only to discover he wasn't ready for all the responsibilities of marriage and fatherhood. They're in for plenty of trouble and heartache, until they discover that their love can overcome anything.

Danelle was described in -Laurie Likes Books thus…

Author Danelle Harmon is known on the 'Net for her fiery demeanor and the romantic way in which she met her husband. She is also known as an author's author -- witness Julia Quinn's comments about her, "Danelle is one of maybe four writers I will buy without even looking at the back cover copy. People hold on to her books, and with good reason."

A Book and a Chat with R. Barri Flowers

When you have a guest on the show who is an award winning criminologist and internationally bestselling author of more than 60 books, including thriller and suspense fiction, relationship fiction, young adult mysteries, true crime, and criminology titles, not counting his own Wikipedia page then you know you’ve the making of one interesting and crammed show.

R. Barri Flowers has a huge range of fiction and non-fiction novels and show stories many under several different names with a growing fan base and in the process winning many awards. His background as a master of science in criminal justice, lad him to write numerous non-fiction books on criminology and true crimes, including the fascinating “Murder at the Pencil Factory”, before branching out into fiction writing.

His first fiction was legal thriller, Persuasive Evidence, which was followed by Justice Served and States Evidence. Persuasive Evidence was in fact nominated for a Romantic Times Award.

The romantic part has been followed up by Barri, writing under the name of Devon Vaughn Archer" he was the first male author for Harlequin's Arabesque imprint. Midwest Book Review described his “Kissing the Girl Next Door”, as romance that "flows off the page.

Not having enough outlets to his talent Barri also writes YA both romance and fiction like his latest YA novel “Count Dracula's Teenage Daughter.

His latest novel is another thriller about an FBI criminal profiler who assists the police in going after a serial killer…  “Before He Kills Again”.

About “Before He Kills Again”:  (Taken from Amazon)

Before He Kills Again is my latest thriller novel. Based in Portland, Oregon, the protagonist is Veronica Vasquez, an FBI criminal psychologist and profiler who returns to her hometown to assist the police in tracking down a frighteningly serial killer. The "Rose Killer" kills beautiful women in pairs.

Soon he sets his sights on Veronica, even as she tries to get to him first, while also seeking to repair a damaged relationship with her estranged sister.

Further complicating Veronica's life is a romance with the lead detective on the case, who has his own issues he's dealing with.

For anyone who enjoys taut serial killer fiction that reflects the verisimilitude that can only come from a veteran criminologist with an expertise on serial murder, you are sure to find this a compelling read.

With numerous series on the go at the same time and hopping from one genera to another it is amazing the talent that flows from today’s guest.

A Book and a Chat with Miralee Ferrel

While Miralee Ferrell today’s guest on “A Book and a Chat” always enjoyed reading she never thought it would be calling for her. That is until one day, when in her fifties she attended an evening church service with a special speaker. At the end the speaker had a call for prayer, when Miralee went forward; they began to pray, and then suddenly stopped.  He told Miralee he believed God was saying she needed to write and it needed to be published.

Miralee went home, prayed about it, and felt a confirmation that this was indeed her calling, even though she had no idea what direction to go. Now, several years later, she writes because I love it and can’t imagine not doing so.

Her debut book was a contemporary woman’s fiction novel “The Other Daughter” and found almost instant success, and has since been followed by “Finding Jeena” the second in the series. After that early success Miralee got into her stride with the historical romance series “Love Finds You” series, all of which have been well received increasing the following of Miralee Ferrell.

Now a new historical romance series has been shared with her many readers, the “Love Blossoms in Oregon” series, of which the newly released “Blowing on Dandelions” is the first book.

About “Blowing on Dandelions”:  (taken from authors web site)

Katherine Galloway knew this moment of calm wouldn’t last, blown away like the dandelion seeds she scattered as a girl. In 1880, three years after her husband’s death, she struggles to run an Oregon boardinghouse and raise two girls alone. Things don't get easier when her critical, domineering mother moves in. Katherine must make the situation work, but standing up for herself and her family while honoring her mother isn't easy. And with a daughter entering the teenage years, the pressure on Katherine becomes close to overwhelming. Then she crosses paths with Micah Jacobs, a widower who could reignite her heart, but she fears a relationship with him might send things over the edge. She must find the strength, wisdom, hope, and faith to remake her life, for everything is about to change.

With further books in the series along with a new series for younger readers  already being planned the name Miralee Ferrell is a name that will continue to bring a smile to many readers faces. So listen now and share an interesting, and entertaining show as I chat with my special guest today on A Book and a Chat with Miralee Ferrel

A Book and a Chat with Kim Carmichael

My guest today is Kim Carmichael a child of the 80’s raised on music videos and neo romantic, who has now taken her romance into the writing world, adding her own name to the modern wave of New Romantic writer.

Kim started writing online, sharing her work with an ever increasing fan base eventually leading her to write her debut novel "Closure". Her books are replacing the old hospital waiting room fiction of Mills and Boon with youthful, vibrant and sexy with lots of romance, plot and realism.

About “Closure” (taken from Amazon)

There's always the one... He's one person throughout life you think about every so often, the one who leaves his unique indelible mark on you, the person with whom you need closure. For Margaret Collins that person was Mike Taylor.

After he broke her heart seventeen years ago, she left everything she knew and reinvented herself. With a new home, a new look and a new name, Riley Williams is now an up and coming journalist given the assignment to interview a Mike Taylor. She never suspected he would be her Mike Taylor. With Mike having no hint of Riley's true identity, she must decide if she will make him pay for sins he doesn't remember committing, or if she can wipe away the past and be with the one man who she has always wanted? Can she finally have closure?

This debut book has been followed by equally successful “The Promise”… “Demon Dolan Ciar exists on three simple words: desire, denial, and destruction. Every four years, he is allowed one night of earthly passion to punish a deserving female”.

Kim is also part of a wonderful e-book selection “The Naughty Box”… filled with 9 books that will thrill you, set your senses on fire and have you begging for a nice cool drink.

With a contract just signed for a set of 9 novels the name of Kim Carmichael will continue to grow in the world and modern romance.

A Book and a Chat with Mike Lynch

My guest on today’s “A Book and a Chat” could be said to be a late bloomer in the literary world his first book finally saw the light of literary day decade after he first wrote it, so saying since that first completion Mike Lynch has continued to produce one “must read” novel after another covering many different book store shelves.

Mike’s first novel “When the Sky Fell” which was jointly written with Brandon Barr will soon be joined by a follow up sci-fi novel “After the Sky Fell”. However Mike’s latest novel is in fact a romance story “Love’s Second Chance”.

About “Love’s Second Chance”: (taken from Mike Web Page)

Everyone deserves a second chance in life, no matter how unlikely. Dana Rogers learns this powerful truth while she serves as the pastor's assistant at New Covenant Church, the center of community life in the town of Fairhaven for the past two hundred years. There she has caught the eye of Evan Johnson, a successful real estate agent and kindred spirit. But the tragic death of her fiancé has wounded her so deeply she has vowed never to love another man again, including Evan.

A steady decline in church attendance the past few months has become a source of concern for Dana, which if not stopped she fears it could have an adverse affect on the town. Despite her strong resistance, Evan helps Dana work through the pain of her loss, developing a relationship with her neither of them thought possible. In a stunning turn of events, New Covenant Church suffers a devastating setback, one that threatens to undo everything Dana has worked to save, including the first embers of a relationship with Evan.

As one reviewer stated… “This book gets two thumbs up from me. If you love a good romance, this book is a must read...” a comment I totally agree with.

A Book and a Chat about The 30th RT Convention with Brenda Jackson and Guy Cote

Back in the 70’s Kathryn Falk decided to write a reference book entitled LADIES OF THE KNIGHT. While in the process of tracking down publishers, booksellers and authors, and compiling profiles and information, she discovered there was no way of knowing what books were coming out, when and where they would appear, which ones were best, who the authors were or how to write them. As she recalls, "Historical romances by Barbara Cartland, Rosemary Rogers and Jennifer Wilde were selling million of copies, she knew there had to be thousands of women, maybe more, who were curious about this type of reading. This was the start of what has “RT Book reviews”.

Romantic Times are the undisputed experts at reaching romance book lovers and creating a promotional medium for publishers and authors for the sale of even more romances started in the 70’s. Today RT BOOK REVIEWS Magazine reviews every romance published and rates it but it also reviews over 100 books in various other genres.

Next week sees the literary world headed to Kansas City for “The 30th RT Booklovers Convention" which will host over 1000 readers and 400 Bestselling authors.

Today I was lucky enough to have two of the authors who will be appearing at this wonderful event as guest on “A Book and a Chat”, to chat about the convention and their own books.

Brenda Jackson is a mutli award winning author, with a 100 books to her name several of which have gone on to be made into films, next week will be her 15th RT Convention. She is the first African-American romance author to make USA Today’s Bestseller’s List and the New York Times Bestseller’s List for the series romance genre. Her books have such a following she hosts her own cruise for her “literary family”.

Writing several different series she is scheduled to release almost a book a month this year with “A Brothers Honor” coming out in June and three more of the Westmorland, romantic western series scheduled over the summer months.

Guy Cote, will be attending his first RT Convention with his debut thriller “Long Live The King” the first in his “Charlemagne Saga”. Like Brenda he will not only be signing copies of his book and chatting to visitors but also be on a few panels and guest speaker events. His book allows him to share his love for history and travel mixed up with suspense, action, adventure… definitely a name for the future!

While the event covers the days there is also plenty to enjoy at night with balls, dances and fun events scheduled every evening providing more time for readers and authors alike to rub shoulders and chat about the wonderful world of “RT REVIEWS”.

So listen now and share an interesting, and entertaining show as I chat with my special guest today on A Book and a Chat about The 30th RT Convention with Brenda Jackson and Guy Cote
