A Book and a Chat with Mike L Kilday

Back in 1979, my guest today, Mike L Kilday, went for a deep-trance, past life session with nationally-renown medium Elwood Babbitt, instead of learning about a past life, Mike found himself receiving a prediction of future Earth changes. Ten years and much study later Mike produced his book “Truth Never Changes: Earth Does”.

Weather changes, solar flares, past changes, predictions, are these signs or pointers to a doomsday scenario of the future?

Mike’s first book as he explained during an interesting show, was not just based upon the initial session with Elwood Babbitt, but upon what he read and discovered from such sources as the history chanel which lead to him putting together the pieces of the puzzle, that has not only lead to his current book, but also his second book which he shared during the show "Truth Never Changes: Genisis of the Path.

As one reviewer stated…

Isn't it good to challenge your natural inclinations? Healthy to step outside your mind's box once in awhile? To avoid the trap Paul Simon identified in The Boxer "...still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest."? Sure it is.

Truth Never Changes: Earth Does:

To assist in finding the Truth, human beings created prophecy. Is prophecy equal to Truth or is it an estimation of it? According to the sources of prophecy, the world as we know it will end on 12/21/2012. The faithful believe they will be ‘raptured’ into heaven beforehand and it is only the unfaithful who will suffer through the tribulation. Regardless of belief, will humanity be swept up into circumstances it neither understands nor controls? Will the events of 2012 happen anyway, or is that date just a mile marker on the road to the future

So sit back and listen to today's interesting and entertaining show as I host today's "A Book and a Chat with Mike L Kilday".

A Book and a Chat with Rose A. Valenta

Rose A. Valenta or as one of her WWII serving Uncles used to call her "Rosie the Riveter" has always had a sense of humor that people enjoyed. In some ways it might go back to her cake baking attempts shared with her Grandma in Orlean, where Rose’s attempts at cupcakes turned out more like hockey pucks. This humor spread through the days of pre blogging and Facebook, when the only thing to break up the normal humdrum work day, were the humor that was spread via office mail.

Rose moved from that to share her humorous stories/essays on her fantastic blog “Rosie’s Renegade Humor Blog” where you can find many of the characters and essays that appear in her humor-filled book, “Sitting on Cold Porcelain”.

About Rose:

Rose A. Valenta is a nationally syndicated humor columnist. Her irreverent columns have been published in Associated Content, Courier Post Online, NPR, Newsday, USA TODAY, the WSJ Online, and many other local news and radio websites. She also authors Rosie's Renegade Humor Blog. "This is the blog for people who would be knowledgeable about current events and politics if only politicians and news anchors didn't slant the truth. So, what else is there to do, but share an honest laugh?" Rose regularly attends the Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop at the University of Dayton, is a member of the Robert Benchley Society and the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.

Sitting on Cold Porcelain:

This is a book filled with coming up to two hundred essays that will add that spark of laughter to your day, it is a book that all will enjoy no matter what age, there is something for everybody with such titles as “Giuliani's Gaffe Could Qualify for Political Darwin Award, Rush Limbaugh: The Don Rickles of Radio, State of The Union 2010: Bitch-Slapping Congress, Islamic Cleric Declares Jihad on Mickey Mouse, Little Egypt to Run Against Sarah Palin”.

The book is like a patchwork of American life and times, humor that makes you stop and think… “You know, I thought that at the time as well.”

Already being hugely popular in the instant download form, it is the sort of book that you can read during a morning coffee break; however beware as the many stories will have you laughing out loud.

With a second book already being planned I’m sure we’ll hear more Rose A. Valenta.

A Book and a Chat with Jennie Helderman

My guest on today's A Book and a Chat is a lady who has been there, done it all and got the tee-shirt. Now Jennie Helderman is sharing with readers, a true story that will disturb, educate and hopefully heal.

From baiting fish hooks to telling stories there never seemed to be enough time for Jennie growing, up and even now her mind is full of stories she yet has to write. He life though has been more than interesting from her work with women’s issues and leadership, community development, public relations and communications, beginning in Gadsden, Alabama, and reaching to national levels. She has been a strong champion of women’s and children’s issues and additionally has worked with child abuse victims.

Along with that Jennie has travelled across five continents, made the pilgrimage of the Camino de Santiago de Compostella in Spain. In the summer of 2002, she worked as a photographer on an Earthwatch archaeology project at the Scavi in Pompeii, Italy. She’s hiked and rafted the Grand Canyon twice; visited 47 US states; climbed Mt. Vesuvius; photographed the Masai people and wild animals in Kenya and Tanzania; and recently toured China and Tibet. So as I said she has many stories yet to be produced.

After several award nominated short stories, two successful coauthored nonfiction books, “Christmas Trivia” and “Hanukkah Trivia”, Jennie has now produced “As the Sycamore Grows” a wonderful non-fiction story.

About “As the Sycamore Grows.”

Imagine sleeping with the enemy in the hills of Tennessee when the enemy totes a Bible and packs a .38. Mike shoved and slapped but his primary tools were isolation and economic abuse "until he discovered the power of the Lord”.

The journalist-narrator meets Ginger, who relates the harrowing tale of her escape from a lonely childhood and two abusive marriages. Her parents embraced a super-strict Christian doctrine which teaches that men lead, women follow and divorce is a sin. Ginger escaped from the first abusive marriage, but it meant leaving her baby boy behind. Her second husband virtually enslaved her in isolation, poverty and physical abuse. Once, on Mother’s Day, he viciously beat her and then demanded that she cut the grass—with scissors.

The story also deals with religious abuse of women. Ginger was brought up in a very strict Christian household, blindly following teachings that helped her attract a batterer. Ginger’s second husband, Mike, grew a Moses beard and learned how religion could be a tool for cruelty and control. “When churches tell women to submit and pray harder”.

Jennie comments…

“I stumbled on a great story with a happy ending. For me it was a journey of discovery. For Ginger it meant re-living black days and bad times, but she still held nothing back.”

With several more ideas bubbling away in Jennies mind and a historical novel yet to be completed I’m sure this will not be the last we will hear of today’s guest “Jennie Helderman

A Book and a Chat with Becky Due

Becky Due, stopped by tonight’s “A Book and a Chat” as my special guest.

She is becoming a voice in woman’s fiction with her courage, honesty and writing style for today’s busy women, that does not cringe away from hard issues.

It was not always like that for her, as we learned during a very interesting show, a lot of what she writes about are from her own life story, one that I hope someday she put in a biography for us all to read.

After extensive training at Victim Services, worked the 24-Hour Sexual Assault Crisis-Line and was a Victim's Advocate where she offered one-on-one assistance and support to rape victims. She found herself running away once too often and decided to put down and start writing. The resulting four novels and children’s book, not only show the talent of her writing, but also how she is able to write novels which teach as well as entertain.

From her first book “The Gentleman’s Club” through the multi award nominated “Touchable Love” Becky has with her passion, writing, has been able to use her own experiences to share a common bond with many other woman.
This is even more evident in her novel “Returning Injury, A Suspense Celebrating Women's Strength” which touches on stalking.

Her books always celebrate the fun, strength and independence of women, because she believes women are fun, strong and should always maintain independence.
This is very evident in her latest book “The Dumpster” a book which I enjoyed myself, laughing out loud at several points in the book.

About “The Dumpster”:

One Woman’s Search for Love is a Contemporary Romance Novel set in Miami, Florida about Nicole, a cute, chubby, twenty-something woman, who is looking for love in all the wrong places. Who would have guessed that a dumpster in the back alley below her bedroom window would hold the key to finding love?

I am also looking forward to perhaps a follow up to her children’s book “Blue the Bird on Flying” yet another string to the bow of this talented author

So sit back and listen to today's thoroughly entertaining show as I host today's "A Book and a Chat with Becky Due".

A Book and a Chat with Shannon Delany

In a show last year I had a Werewolf dial in and speak or rather chat at the guest author that day, in today’s show with guest Shannon Delany I went even better. Having not one but two guest werewolf’s, in the shape of Pietr and Max, two of the stars of her “13 to Life” series.

In a show that all will enjoy, not only did we hear about book two of Shannon’s hugely popular series, “Secrets and Shadows”, but also about the third book in the series to be launched later this year.

Secrets and Shadows official launch date is February 15th, though as we heard some lucky people were able to get an advance sighed copy yesterday at the wonder “The Voracious Reader”.

For those who do not know the series, “13 to Life

Something strange is stalking the small town of Junction…
When junior Jess Gillmansen gets called out of class by Guidance, she can only presume it’s for one of two reasons. Either they’ve finally figured out who wrote the scathing anti-jock editorial in the school newspaper or they’re hosting yet another intervention for her about her mom. Although far from expecting it, she’s relieved to discover Guidance just wants her to show a new student around—but he comes with issues of his own including a police escort.

The newest member of Junction High, Pietr Rusakova has secrets to hide--secrets that will bring big trouble to the small town of Junction—secrets including dramatic changes he’s undergoing that will surely end his life early.

About Secrets and Shadows:

The supernatural stakes are higher than ever now that more than just werewolves prowl the town of Junction--friendships will be formed, choices will be made and allies may become enemies...

Nothing's simple when you run with werewolves. Jess Gillmansen thinks she's seen it all but her eyes are about to be opened to even more danger and a reality far more paranormal than she's suspected.

Secrets and Shadows follows where book one leaves off, answering a few questions left from the cliffhanger ending of book one, as well as leaving a many questions in its own right that already have people clamoring for book three. The relationship between Pietr and Jessie is starting to shows signs of the pressure, not being helped by Sarah. The book also involves Max a lot with both of the Rusakovas brother spending a lot of time as wolves. With Shannon’s normal plot twists and turns, secrets are divulged and new questions asked. It is a fast paced page-turner that will keep the many who have been waiting for this book two, on the edge of their seat and asking when the third book will be available.

Pietr and Max, shared with us much of their enjoyment about appearing not only in Shannon’s books, but as we learned soon to appear with her at book signings.

The show was great fun and one that many will enjoy as they already do with this wonderful YA Authors books.

So sit back and listen to today's thoroughly entertaining show as I host today's "A Book and a Chat with Shannon Delany".

A Book and a Chat with DCS

It’s always good to have return visitors on the show, learning about what they have been up to since they last appeared on the show as well as hopefully a new book or two. Today I am pleased to have such a return visitor, Sci-Fi Author, Spiritual Activist and Radio Show Host, DCS to chat about her latest novel “The Ascension” the second book in “The Synarchy Series”.

DCS spent time in the corporate world in records management, and briefly considered the possibility of making a living converting corporate paper into searchable tiffs. She then realized that the telling of well researched stories was her first, true love. Synarchy Book 1 - "The Awakening" is her first novel and was named a finalist in the 2008 Best Book Awards sponsored by USA Book News. Synarchy Book 2: The Ascension is her latest novel and is being adapted into a major motion picture. Six novels in the Synarchy Series are intended for release with Book 3: SVT and Book 4: The Black Widow due out in 2011.

About Synarchy: "I will die to see my will done. And it will be done."

A plan is exposed, centuries in the making and so sinister not even the legend himself could have predicted the depth of its impact on the world. In his lifetime Stefano Terenzio had a merciless ambition for absolute power. Two generations later the shock wave he ignited was still being felt. Now, as the world inches closer to 2012 sides are chosen, families divide and an epic battle begins that will determine whether mankind continues existing in a world of lies or shatters the chains that have held us prisoner since his-story was written.

Shocking yet hopeful, Synarchy slowly unravels the tightly laced reality we have created for ourselves. Blending the metaphysical with conspiracy, fact with fiction, debut author DCS has opened up a world that will force you to rethink everything you believe about your own. The knowledge within provokes the question: do you really want to know?

Sort of The Goodfather meets Star Gate, book one launched DCS on a path that as she shared with us during the program is now, with the growing appreciation of her writing along with book two is starting to see not only some reward but also a growing following that is already baying for books three and four to be produced.
We learned during the program how much as a writer DCS has learned from her first book enabling “The Ascension” to not only increase her success but also having it optioned for a movie.

So sit back and listen to today's thoroughly interesting and entertaining show as I host today's "A Book and a Chat with DCS".

A Book and a Chat with Tina Field Howe

Creativity comes in many forms, my guest today Tina Field Howe knows all about the many forms that creativity can show itself.

On previous visits to "A Book and a Chat" Tina we have discussed her work from freelance communications designing, through children's stories (“Snailsworth, a slow little story”.. .one of my kids favourites).

We have hearchatted abouther award winning Fantasy series, “Tellings of Xunar-kun”.

I’ve met, chatted and interviewed Tina and the cast of her award winning audio version of “Alysa of the Fields”, so what creativity is Tina working on now?

As we heard during an entertaining show, she is once more embarking on several new aspects of creativity, working on fresh screen writing, and using her experience gained in developing the audio book to create “SkyRider Sound

What Tina says about SkyRider Sound:

The production of the Alysa of the Fields audio book was an amazing journey. This two-year undertaking was not an easy task, but it was one of the best learning experiences. Not only was it my directorial debut; I acquired valuable sound recording, editing, and audio publishing experience that I will continue to develop.

Also, since some good relationships were formed with many of the actors, I desired to continue working with them on future projects. Therefore I have founded SkyRider Sound, a custom sound company that will continue to produce audio books for my work as well as that of other authors.

SkyRider showcases voice talent and musicians who are involved so far. I have many more interested and will add their photos, bios and clips once I receive them. In addition to voice, scene and music clips, there are also some funky sci-fi creature sounds posted on the site which were created exclusively for the Alysa audio book and that you might not have noticed in the background.

As well as this, Tina is developing a monthly news letter, where she is able to share the creative knowledge gained on so many levels, not only in writing, audio work etc as well as sharing her passion for writing with readers, writers and writers-to-be. You can find out more about this news letter and all the other items at www.AlysaBooks.com

With the third book underway, working on voiceover and other new ventures, Tina Field Howe certainly knows about creativity.

A Book and a Chat with Kathy Bell

My guest on today’s “A Book and a Chat” is Canadian author Kathy Bell. Kathy has called the beautiful area of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron in Ontario, Canada, home for her entire life.

As we heard during the program it was only after ticking off many of the items on her wish list, and with one hand cradling her youngest daughter that she was at last able to fulfill one more item on her list, that if producing her own novel, in fact her own trilogy “Infinion Series”.

With a” to do” list that included marry high school sweetheart; get an awesome career as a high school science teacher; have four wonderful kids; build her dream home; be a successful entrepreneur; breed Canada's top winning bulldog; get a herd of horses. With such a list, it’s no surprise she eventually made Amazons top twenty in science fiction novels with her first book “Regression”.

Kathy shared with us some of her other interesting items about her far from boring life, some of which can be found in her blogs “My Ridiculous Life” which some day might well lead to another entertaining production from this Canadian author.

About “Infinion Series”

Imagine being the last human left living on the planet. To what lengths would you go to resurrect the human race and the woman you love?

Nicholas Weaver watches humanity fade away as he struggles to create a means of saving them. When he discovers a way to travel through time, he is limited by the fact he himself cannot go back far enough to make a difference, nor can he communicate with those who can. Stuck in an endless loop of frustrating failure, he has decided to make one last effort to save the world.

This lifetime the results are more than he ever imagined. But, by saving humanity from one terrible fate, has he brought about another
?

Regression: Book One
Evolussion: Book Two
Revolussion: Book Three (due out 11/11/11)

As we learned during the show, the date for the third though perhaps not final book in the series is special to the novel itself.

A Book and a Chat with Dr. Jennifer Freed

"Seduction is just the practice of artful stretching"
.

Writes today’s radio show guest Dr. Jennifer Freed, or rather I should say, so says Stanley the Cat the star of her latest book “Lessons of Stanley the Cat: Nine Lives of Everyday Wisdom”.

For more than 25 years, Jennifer Freed, Ph.D., has been a licensed marriage and family counselor, group psychotherapist and educator. She was the Clinical Director at Pacifica Graduate Institute, one of the country’s leading centers for depth psychology, where she continues to serve as a professor and workshop leader. A recognized expert on behavioral matters such as teen bullying, character development, marriage and family relationships, and diversity issues, she is alos co-founder/director of the highly successful teen program called “The Academy of Healing Arts (AHA!), as well as a renowned psychological astrologer.

About “Lessons of Stanley the Cat

Never let people know how fast you are.

Appear slow in all things, and less is expected of you.

When someone is on the computer too long, help them by distracting them, or walk lightly on their keyboard.

So advises Stanley, a remarkably astute cat with a keen eye for the important things in life. Perhaps you don’t have time for yoga, can’t afford therapy, or wouldn’t dare cry to mother. If so, let Stanley be your guide. Lessons from Stanley the Cat offers wise and witty maxims from Stanley himself, translated by his doting psychotherapist (human) parent, Jennifer Freed. Whether you’re a cat lover or prefer companions of the canine variety, Stanley’s warmth and insight are sure to brighten even the grayest days.

It is a wonderful book that will not only bring a smile to your heart but also provoke thoughts and often discussion, the kind of book for all the family, from your cat loving ancient aunt to a dog loving teenager, there is something for everybody.

During the show we heard not only about all the work this seemingly non-stop lady does, but also how there is a second book “Further Lessons from Stanley the Cat and his Friends” hopefully on the way.

A Book and a Chat with Stephanie Vlahov

There is a saying… “if Einstein were alive today, he would be put on Ritalin." When you get down to it that is pretty close to the truth, just imagine what they’d say about Picasso’s painting, when schools think if a person paints the sky purple there might be something wrong with the student.

My guest on today’s show is Stephanie Vlahov, taking from her own experience with her son she wrote her book The Active Creative Child - Parenting In Perpetual Motion to empower parents to question the casually used diagnosis of ADHD. And, to then see their child’s precocity in a whole new way while retaining their sanity!

About “The Active Creative Child”.

The energy of these children can be astounding; their curiosity boundless. Channeling that energy is not only helpful but necessary. Supporting that curiosity is essential! This book provides specific hints for coping, establishing realistic boundaries, avoiding labels and easy judgements (like having ADHD) where any child is concerned. Written in an upbeat style, the author draws from her experience with her own active/creative children and those of others to present a handbook of encouragement and genuine help.

As she says…

We are failing our kids with ADHD by over diagnosing them and overmedicating them - ignoring their inherent creativity and "out of the box" thinking.
